Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco, 2016
2016 is the new 2006. Or the new 2010. It's highly touted and laureated. Unlike Bordeaux, the Piedmontese don't market Vintages of the Century twice a decade. And judging by my personal experience and a lot of scouring through forums and reviews, few of the hyped vintages turn out to be over-hyped. Anyway, 2016 seems to be a consensus and the Produttori normale is beautiful, living proof. It's the best I've had yet, certainly the most vibrant and fresh, with complex and extremely fragrant aromatics - red fruit and flowers to start with, then earth, truffles, dog fur. It's already got game and I think it will keep in top form and become even more complex. (Aug. 6, 2020)
