www.sommelier.co.il

For some reason, I only started following this site a few weeks ago. Very well designed and informative. There, I just popped in there and learned the Tabor, Mescha, 2003 has 15% Shiraz. And I really like the way they organize the reviews.

Make sure to look up reviews by Meir Ido. I can vouch for his good taste as well as for his rather austere compliments. That is, any wine he actually recommends is quite good.

I do not like the Sommelier website at all and i think that this website is all about "combina" with people they know and like.
With that website you never get the true picture, i suspect.

However i do agree that meir ido has a very good taste.

I just have to appreciate an Israeli wine site that takes the trouble of uploading all those wine labels...

The only reviews to take seriously in the website are the private collectors.
The wine stores and restaurants have their own private intrest to keep and that what reflects in their reviews.
I can give examples but I don't want to ruin personal relations

You've got a point and I considered that but on the other hand, I did notice the 'professionals' did bother to mention which of their recommendations are available in the stores/restaurants. Which I think at least points out their biases.

I do prefer to read the 'amateur' notes, too.

I think, after reading your comments, that maybe I was a bit indiscriminate in my enthusiasm. But I just think that for an Israeli site to go to the trouble of editing all those reviews, uploading the wine labels, editing them to the same size, resolution and feel - all of that is way beyond my expectations. Then the way the reviews are presented gives the informed reader level ground for weeding out the biases.

Chaim,
"to go to the trouble of editing all those reviews, uploading the wine labels, editing them to the same size, resolution and feel"
All of the above are not a good enough reason for me. Sorry.

I suspect that the reviews of the private collectorscan not be taken seriously from the same reason -
have their own private intrest as well.

I meant the private collectors of that specific website. Not private collectors in genera, off course.

The Sommelier website in my opinion does not deserve a link from this website.
But this is my opinion only.

I really did not expect this many comments, but they are all very interesting. I realized that sommelier is a commercial site and has its own agenda but to its credit it does not hide the fact that some of the writers are biased and in fact states it clearly. I do not understand, however, why Avi Conforti posts as an amateur and not as a restaurant owner, though again, that fact is not obscured.

As for posting a link there, like I said, I appreciate the amateur notes, by people like Meir, Ehud, Amir and Yehuda. That's the reason for the link.

You could have asked those three people to post there posts here.
